The Sandhills Valley Mavericks will head out on the road to face off against the Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Sandhills Valley couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a serious blow against Anselmo-Merna on Friday, falling 68-12. Sandhills Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-4.
Meanwhile, Sumner-Eddyville-Miller didn't have too much trouble with Loomis on the road on Saturday as they won 53-39. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller can attribute much of their success to Mikah O'Neill, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which O'Neill has scored at least 25% of Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taryn Arbuthnot, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds.
Sandhills Valley's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
Sandhills Valley might still be hurting after the 47-21 loss they got from Sumner-Eddyville-Miller in their previous meeting back in January of 2022. Can Sandhills Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
