The West Nassau Warriors had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They slipped by Yulee 42-41 on Monday. The win was just what West Nassau needed coming off of a 55-28 defeat in their prior match.
West Nassau's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tru Armstrong, who scored 16 points. Abagail Bailey was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Yulee lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Rheyna Hilton, who scored nine points along with 15 rebounds and eight blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Macey Reynolds, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Yulee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 30 offensive rebounds. This was only their eighth loss (out of nine games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
West Nassau's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-11. As for Yulee, their defeat was their seventh straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-12.
West Nassau will head out on the road to square off against Baldwin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Baldwin is ranked 533rd, while West Nassau is ranked 511th). As for Yulee, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Hilliard at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th.
