Basketball Recap: Seven Gourdet Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Episcopal School of Jacksonville

It was a Battle of the Birds when Fleming Island took on Episcopal School of Jacksonville on Monday. The Fleming Island Golden Eagles walked away with a 54-41 win over the Episcopal School of Jacksonville Eagles. The Golden Eagles pushed the score to 47-23 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.

Fleming Island's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Seven Gourdet, who posted 11 points in addition to six boards and three steals. That's the most steals Gourdet has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Victoria Noble, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 14 points.

Despite the loss, Episcopal School of Jacksonville still got an impressive performance from Zara Griffith, who had 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ailey Cole, who put up six points and seven rebounds.

Fleming Island's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-8. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.0 points per game. As for Episcopal School of Jacksonville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.

Fleming Island won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Ridgeview at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ridgeview will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Fleming Island surely won't give up without a fight. As for Episcopal School of Jacksonville, they will challenge Flagler Palm Coast at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
