On Wednesday, the Overland Trailblazers faced the Smoky Hill Buffaloes in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Overland took a 69-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Smoky Hill. Overland has not had much luck with Smoky Hill recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the loss, Overland still got an impressive performance from Isreal Littleton, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kymani Eason, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Overland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Smoky Hill only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Smoky Hill's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carter Basquez, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Basquez is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Lorenzo Contreras, who scored 16 points along with seven assists.
Overland's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Smoky Hill, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Overland will head out on the road to challenge Cherokee Trail at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Overland is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 63.8 points per game this season. As for Smoky Hill, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Cherry Creek at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Smoky Hill's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
