When No. 1
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) takes the field Friday against No. 3
St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) in the biggest high school football game of the season there will be 60 players who have landed at least one FBS offer. There are 66 players overall rated as at least a two-star recruit or have an FBS or FCS offer and there are plenty others who should have offers headed their way soon.
The winner of this game will control its own destiny finish the season at No. 1. Both these schools have finished ranked in the Top 10 every year since 2016. Mater Dei went wire-to-wire as the No. 1 team in the country during the 2017 season and the Braves finished 2019 at No. 1 after Uiagalelei led them to a 39-34 comeback win in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship.
Friday's game at Panish Family Stadium is the 10th meeting since 2016 and the Monarchs have won six of the last nine, including a 34-17 win last spring.
