Sulphur's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kale Brakefield, who threw for 263 yards and four TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes. Brakefield has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Sulphur's leading receiver Maddax Mobly was Brakefield's top target yet again, picking up 189 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Sulphur, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Carter Cole, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Sulphur's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Cooper Cole, Kash Pickett, and George Martinez, who each picked up one sack apiece. Sulphur received some extra help from Mobly, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lone Grove). They claimed a resounding 63-7 victory over Victory Christian.
Sulphur's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Lone Grove, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
Everything came up roses for Sulphur against Lone Grove in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 56-0 win. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Longhorns have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
