The Wyomissing Spartans will head out to take on the Bermudian Springs Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wyomissing is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Wyomissing is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Kutztown 13-12. Wyomissing's win was all the more impressive since the Cougars were averaging only 3.45 runs allowed on the season.
Noah Rauenzahn made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rauenzahn was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Zander Westwood was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Teddy White, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Wyomissing kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Bermudian Springs came tearing into May 1st's game with 16 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 9-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Skyler Gentzler tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lane Hubbard, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Heller, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Bermudian Springs pushed their record up to 18-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Wyomissing, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.
Both Wyomissing and Bermudian Springs just can't seem to miss. The Spartans have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Bermudian Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
