Great Mills is 1-8 against the Wolverines since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Great Mills Hornets will head out on the road to square off against the Westlake Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. Great Mills is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road.
Great Mills scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They breezed by Patuxent at home to the tune of 84-42. The final score was a far cry from the score of their previous head-to-head, which saw the teams combine for zero points.
Jermaine Davis had a dynamite game for Great Mills, going 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points and 8 assists. It was the first time this season that Davis posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Brooks, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though Thomas Stone scored an imposing 57 points on Monday, Westlake still came out on top. Westlake escaped with a win against the Cougars by the margin of a single free throw, 58-57. The win was nothing new for Westlake as they're now sitting on three straight.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westlake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Darian Canty, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. Melvin Newman was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Great Mills' victory bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Westlake, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
Great Mills came up short against the Wolverines in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 78-65. Thankfully for Great Mills, Jackson Prince (who scored 27 points along with eight rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
