Bluffton dropped their record down to 8-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins at home. They lost 13-6 to the Fort Wayne Canterbury Cavaliers. Tigers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cavaliers since on Wednesday.
Bluffton got a good showing from Abram Gehrett, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Gehrett has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Bluffton saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Griffin Morgan, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Easton Blair was another, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Fort Wayne Canterbury, they now have a winning record of 3-2. That looming 13-6 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.
On Fort Wayne Canterbury's side, JP Rohwer made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Rohwer was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Maloblocki, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Reed Hayes, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Coming up, Bluffton will be playing at home against South Adams at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Starfires have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.43 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fort Wayne Canterbury, they will head out to take on Muncie Burris at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
