The South View Tigers will square off against the Purnell Swett Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South View will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
South View lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Lumberton, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's game. South View never let Lumberton get on the board and left with an 11-0 win on Wednesday. The Tigers' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four contests.
JORDYNN PARNELL and KAYLIE COOK made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, PARNELL pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, COOK didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. PARNELL has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, PARNELL scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while COOK scored three runs.
In other batting news, MADDY CLARK was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. KAYLEIGH SMITH was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
South View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Purnell Swett fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Jack Britt on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Buccaneers by a score of 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Rams have suffered since April 16, 2024.
Jayla Graham made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5. Another player making a difference was Lanna Haggans, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
South View pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11 runs. As for Purnell Swett, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Purnell Swett's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South View has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Purnell Swett, though, as they've been averaging 11.2 hits. Given South View's sizable advantage in that area, Purnell Swett will need to find a way to close that gap.
South View came out on top in a nail-biter against Purnell Swett when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. Does South View have another victory up their sleeve, or will Purnell Swett turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
