St. Louis Park is 0-5 against Waconia since May of 2017 but things could change on Monday. The Orioles will host the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. St. Louis Park is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
12 must be St. Louis Park's lucky number: they beat Kennedy with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Orioles were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Eagles. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Orioles.
Azlyn McDonnell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. McDonnell was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, St. Louis Park got a big performance out of Ella Tousignault, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Eva Taybior was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
St. Louis Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Waconia). They came out on top in a nail-biter against Chaska on Friday, sneaking past 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since May 14, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Reagan Mieras, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Maya Pena, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.
St. Louis Park pushed their record up to 4-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Waconia, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.
Waconia's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: St. Louis Park hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. It's a different story for Waconia, though, as they've only averaged .207. Will they be able to contain St. Louis Park's hitters?
St. Louis Park might still be hurting after the 11-3 defeat they got from Waconia when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Orioles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
