Thornton waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victor by a 63-42 margin over the Adams City Eagles. For the Trojans, this counts as revenge for the 97-53 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.
Thornton had a senior duo take command as Clayton Jones went 9 of 12 on his way to 23 points and six boards and Kainoa Miller went 6 for 7 en route to 17 points. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Jones has scored at least a third of Thornton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gerardo Cepeda, who posted six points and nine rebounds.
Thornton was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Adams City only posted four assists.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jojo Martinez, who went 7 for 16 on his way to 16 points. Matius Montoya was another key player, putting up ten points and five steals.
Thornton has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.6 points per game. Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thornton will square off against Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mountain View knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Thornton likes a good challenge. As for Adams City, they will face off against Skyview at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Adams City is facing Skyview at the right time seeing as Skyview is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
