The Portal Panthers put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Evans by a score of 58-45. Given Portal's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Evans is ranked 233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Portal to victory were Elijah Coleman and Marion Tremble. Coleman scored 15 points along with 5 steals, while Tremble scored 14 points along with 9 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Coleman has scored at least 25% of Portal's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amir Jackson, who scored 5 points along with 6 rebounds.
Portal's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Evans, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portal's road trip will continue as they head out to face Screven County at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th. Hopefully Screven County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Saturday. As for Evans, they will head out on the road to face off against Hephzibah at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Hephzibah's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
