Northern Durham is 9-1 against Riverside-Durham since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Knights will be playing at home against the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. Northern Durham has given up an average of 10.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Northern Durham came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Jordan, falling 16-7.
AnnaClaire Spell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Roxy Nelson, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Riverside-Durham unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of East Chapel Hill by a score of 9-8.
Juleah Somers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered nine runs (all of which were unearned) on ten hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Grayson Knotts and Paris Chavis stepped up to the plate in a big way. Knotts went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Chavis went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Riverside-Durham's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Northern Durham, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Northern Durham has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Riverside-Durham struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
