The Adair County Indians will head out to square off against the Nelson County Cardinals at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Nelson County took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Adair County, who comes in off a win.
Adair County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Central Hardin, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Adair County blew past Central Hardin 19-3 on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Indians considering their one-run performance the game before.
Isaac Rodgers made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Rodgers was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Alex Martin was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Dax Conn was another key player, scoring two runs.
Meanwhile, Nelson County fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against North Oldham on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 5-4. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like Adair County, Nelson County also got a great game from a two-way player: A Balog. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Balog was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Balog wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was D Minter, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. K Hendrickson also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Adair County's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Nelson County, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3-1.
Adair County couldn't quite get it done against Nelson County in their previous meeting back in April of 2016 as they fell 7-2. Can Adair County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
