Two dominant signal callers in Colton* Zeen and Trent Lux are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The King Wolves will square off against the Great Oak Wolfpack at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. King has given up an average of 25.9 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
King is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Murrieta Mesa just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They were outmatched by the Rams and fell 51-24. The game was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly the Wolves struggled afterwards.
Ben* Major put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 86 yards and one TD on only 12 carries. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run.
Meanwhile, Great Oak made easy work of Temecula Valley on Thursday and carried off a 36-13 victory. With the Wolfpack ahead 24-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Great Oak's win came from a few key players King will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Carlos Carruego, who picked up 57 receiving yards and one touchdown. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making two total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Kannon Terraciano was another key player, picking up 70 receiving yards and one score.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Great Oak was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 299 rushing yards. They are a perfect 5-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
Great Oak didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Carruego and Blake Certeza.
The win made it two in a row for Great Oak and bumps their season record up to 6-3. The team dominated over those games too, winning by an average of 24.5 points. As for King, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-3.
Thursday's contest might be decided on the ground. King has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 246.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Great Oak struggles in that department as they've been averaging 190.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
King beat Great Oak 25-15 when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Wolfpack have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
