The Timber Creek Wolves waltzed into their match on Wednesday with three straight wins but they left with four. Everything went their way against Cocoa as Timber Creek made off with a 65-41 win. Given Timber Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Cocoa is ranked 148th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Timber Creek got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Karishma Ortiz out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Ortiz pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Isabella Spence, who scored six points along with eight assists and seven steals.
Cocoa lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Vahndrecia Orange, who scored eight points. Gianna Conklin-Jones was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Timber Creek is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. As for Cocoa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-9.
Timber Creek will head out on the road to square off against East River at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cocoa, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Hopefully Heritage focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Tuesday.
