The Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks lost against the Union City Indians back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Mississinawa Valley was the victim of a rough 66-44 loss at the hands of Union City. While losing is never fun, Mississinawa Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 815th in Ohio, while Union City is ranked 324th in Indiana).
When it comes to explaining why Mississinawa Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aron Hunt. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hunt has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kyle Wehrkamp, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Leading Union City to victory were Conner Walser and Jayson Connor. Walser scored 19 points along with six steals, while Connor scored 25 points along with six rebounds. It was the first time this season that Connor scored 15 or more points. Angel Nieto was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
This is the second loss in a row for Mississinawa Valley and nudges their season record down to 2-18. As for Union City, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-9.
Mississinawa Valley will be playing at home against Twin Valley South at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mississinawa Valley is facing Twin Valley South at the right time seeing as Twin Valley South is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Union City, they will head out on the road to challenge Centerville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Centerville is coming into the matchup with four straight victories at home, so Union City is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
