Football Recap: Jacob Chevez Key Part of Team Effort in Cougars Win + How To Watch

It was a proper cat-fight when Cinco Ranch faced off against Paetow on Friday. The Cougars enjoyed a cozy 41-27 win over the Panthers. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 41-31 victory the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Cinco Ranch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jacob Chevez led the charge by picking up 153 receiving yards and four scores. Those 153 receiving yards gave Chevez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Davis Roup, who threw for 199 yards and four TDs.

Cinco Ranch was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 247 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 96.8 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five games they've averaged 185.

Cinco Ranch didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jacob Forinash and Maverick McConnell. Forinash is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least eight every time he's taken the field this season.

Despite the loss, Paetow still got an impressive performance from Jovan Rodriguez, who rushed for 242 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Rodriguez showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 69 yards.

Cinco Ranch's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.3 points over those games. As for Paetow, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Cinco Ranch is set to square off against their familiar foe Tompkins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 950 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, Paetow will take on rival Seven Lakes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
