After flying high against the Rosman Tigers last Friday, the Owen Warhorses came back down to earth. Owen took a 74-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of NCSSM: Morganton on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Owen had strong showings from Asante Martin, who scored 20 points along with five assists, and Eli Lewkowicz, who scored 19 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Martin continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jack Wesley Burk, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
NCSSM: Morganton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Vedant Chanshetty led the charge by scoring 24 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lawson Taylor, who scored 19 points.
Owen has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for NCSSM: Morganton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Owen will take on Avery County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Owen knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 matchups -- so hopefully Avery County likes a good challenge. As for NCSSM: Morganton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Draughn at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Draughn's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games.
