Cardinal Gibbons proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by three) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a set and slipped past the Plant Panthers 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Crusaders sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Cardinal Gibbons had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 24-26, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 15-11.
Mary Grace Gonyeau paced Cardinal Gibbons' offense, picking up 18 kills. Gonyeau got some help from Genevieve Harris and her 60 assists. Harris was also a major player on defense: she and Amelia Bell shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with four each.
Cardinal Gibbons' victory bumped their record up to 15-2. As for Plant, their loss was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 10-7.
