Southwood is 7-2 against Maconaquah since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Southwood Knights will be playing at home against the Maconaquah Braves at 7:45 p.m. Southwood is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home.
Southwood lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Saturday was a bit more commanding. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 73-52 walloping at the hands of Northwestern. While losing is never fun, Southwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 346th, while Northwestern is ranked 129th).
Despite the defeat, Southwood had strong showings from Bryce Wilcox, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Griffin Chambers, who scored 14 points along with four steals. Wilcox is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Will Winer, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Maconaquah can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Carroll as Maconaquah made off with a 85-60 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Southwood has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Maconaquah, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-4.
Southwood couldn't quite finish off Maconaquah in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 and fell 80-78. Thankfully for Southwood, Bauer Maple (who scored 27 points along with five assists and two steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
