It was a good run, but the Centerville Tigers unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 59-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grapeland. Centerville lost against Grapeland in their previous head to head back in February of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 84-42 score last time.
Despite the defeat, Centerville had strong showings from Wade Neyland, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds, and Zach Waters, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Neyland is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 20 games he's played. Trayce Schwab was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Centerville's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-6. As for Grapeland, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-10.
Centerville will take on Groveton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Groveton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1389th, while Centerville is ranked 647th). As for Grapeland, they will head out on the road to square off against Latexo at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
