Seymour has gone 8-2 against St. Paul Catholic recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Wildcats will venture away from home to challenge the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Seymour 3.2, St. Paul Catholic 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Seymour fell victim to Woodland Regional and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Hawks, falling 12-0. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Wildcats, who until this contest were averaging 3.22 runs allowed.
Seymour got a good showing from Skylar Barton, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Barton has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, St. Paul Catholic put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Waterbury Career Academy with a sharp 19-1 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.
Breyona Demora made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Demora was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Laila McCulloch and Stella Boucino did most of the damage at the plate: McCulloch went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Boucino went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Harley Emmendorfer also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
St. Paul Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.
St. Paul Catholic's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games. As for Seymour, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 8-1.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Seymour has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .556. However, it's not like St. Paul Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .505. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Seymour was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Paul Catholic when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 9-5. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
