Southwest recap October 8, 2013
New Fairfield was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in Southwest. The Rebels beat Stratford 28-21 earlier in the week.
Newtown extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Joel Barlow, 49-36. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Jack Shaban was a beast in the backfield as the Falcons lost to Newtown.
Andrew Tarantino threw for 425 yards and 6 touchdowns. He was 22-36 with 2 interceptions.
Shaban was the best running back in the league this week. In 24 carries, he ran for 242 yards as Joel Barlow defeated Joel Barlow. Steve Miller also contributed to the rushing game with 22 yards on the ground.
Leading Southwest in both passing and receiving yards, the Nighthawks' Tarantino and Dunn have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Tarantino has thrown for 1,108 yards this season, while Dunn has 18 catches for 449 yards. Brookfield's Bobby Drysdale leads the league in rushing yards with 592.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Rob Tynan's team takes on New Fairfield. At the moment, the Falcons are in fourth, while Anthony Fata's team is in third.
New Milford moved up to 114 from 140 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Green Wave climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Weston 35-20.
