The Broadneck Bruins waltzed into their contest Friday with four straight wins but they left with five. They snuck past Maryvale Prep with a 39-35 win. Given Broadneck's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Maryvale Prep is ranked 168th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Broadneck's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mackenzie Wharton, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. The game was Wharton's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Annabelle Hall, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Broadneck's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Maryvale Prep, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Broadneck won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Eleanor Roosevelt at 11:00 a.m. on December 30, 2023. Hopefully Eleanor Roosevelt focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday. As for Maryvale Prep, they will head out on the road to face off against Garrison Forest at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
