Baseball Recap: IMG Academy Gold Victorious

The IMG Academy Gold Ascenders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over The Villages Charter Buffalo on Friday.

Tyler Shindo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Jack Priory tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February.

Back at the plate, Ryan Williams was incredible, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also brought in three RBI, which is notable because IMG Academy Gold is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 5-6 otherwise. Kevin Brinkworth was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

IMG Academy Gold always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The Villages Charter only posted an OBP of .429.

IMG Academy Gold's record is now 8-6. As for The Villages Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.

Looking ahead, IMG Academy Gold will take on Coral Springs in a tournament on Monday. IMG Academy Gold's pitchers better be ready for this one: Coral Springs has averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for The Villages Charter, they will be taking part in a tournament against Chattanooga Central at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
