The Belgreen Bulldogs won the last time they faced the Vina Red Devils, and things went their way on Friday too. Belgreen came out on top against Vina by a score of 51-38. Given Belgreen's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while Vina is ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the defeat, Vina saw an underclassman step up: Layla Hester scored 19 points along with 4 steals. The matchup was Hester's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaley Attaway, who scored 6 points along with 14 rebounds.
Belgreen has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Vina, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Belgreen will face off against Hackleburg at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Vina, they will head out on the road to face off against Phillips at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Phillips is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
