Santa Cruz Valley was the victim of a tough 49-27 loss at the hands of St. Augustine Catholic. Santa Cruz Valley has not had much luck with St. Augustine Catholic recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the loss, Santa Cruz Valley still got an impressive performance from Jianna Lopez, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Lopez scored a full 48.1% of Santa Cruz Valley's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Santa Cruz Valley were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
St. Augustine Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carolina Georgelous, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Callahan, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Santa Cruz Valley has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for St. Augustine Catholic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-5.
Santa Cruz Valley will head out on the road to face off against Tempe Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Tempe Prep comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they will be playing at home against Sequoia Pathway Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
