Ella Eichman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jayda Moenke, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Amherst came into Tuesday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Shiocton on Tuesday as they made off with a 7-1 victory. That looming 7-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Falcons yet this season.
Amherst also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Sam Nooyen gave up only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Nooyen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Ivy Boelk was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Chandler, who went 4-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Amherst, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 6-6.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Chargers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Amherst, though, as they've been averaging only 0.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Wittenberg-Birnamwood continue to outrun the ball?
Wittenberg-Birnamwood beat Amherst 6-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
