The Dupo Tigers will take on the Gillespie Miners at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Dupo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Dupo came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Steeleville, falling 9-3. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Maryann Imhoff was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Gillespie had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Miners, who have now won eight matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Sadie Sholtis made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Gillespie got a massive performance out of Ava Parish, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Parish a new career-high. Delaney Taylor was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Gillespie hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Gillespie's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Dupo, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dupo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Gillespie struggles in that department as they've averaged .351. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dupo suffered a grim 20-4 defeat to Gillespie when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
