North Providence and Tiverton are an even 4-4 against one another since October of 2014, but not for long. The North Providence Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Tiverton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
Last Saturday, North Providence came up short against Providence Country Day/Highlander Charter/Sanchez Complex and fell 19-12.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Tiverton, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 32-16 loss to Davies Career & Tech on Thursday.
Despite the loss, Tiverton got a solid performance out of Aiden Champ, who rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, and also caught a touchdown.
North Providence's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-3. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-0 Davies Career & Tech and 6-1 Exeter-West Greenwich/Prout (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 76.2% over those games). As for Tiverton, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
North Providence took their win against Tiverton when the teams last played back in November of 2022 by a conclusive 28-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for North Providence since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
