Asheville School (Independent)'s success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Heimir Helgason led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards. Helgason's evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Miki Gacic was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten assists.
On Sunday fans watched as two of the best teams in the nation hit the court. Christ School took a 74-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of Paul VI. The Greenies' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Asheville School (Independent) will need focus on slowing down Zymicah Wilkins, one of several Christ School players who made an impact when they last played. He dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Madden Collins, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 20 points.
Christ School's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-2. As for Asheville School (Independent), they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Helgason and Wilkins. Helgason has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 20.9 points, 2.7 blocks, and 7.8 boards. For his part, Wilkins has averaged 15 points and 1.9 steals on 56.4% shooting.
