The South Panola Tigers will venture away from home to take on the Lafayette Commodores at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. South Panola will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
On Thursday, South Panola narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Center Hill 6-5.
The team relied heavily on Jamarion Ingram, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Holden Daleke, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs.
Starkville typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Lafayette proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Yellowjackets, sneaking past 6-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Commodores.
Landon Cobbs was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run was his first of the season. Levi Hamm was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Lafayette pushed their record up to 18-8 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for South Panola, their record is now 16-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Panola has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lafayette struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
South Panola suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Lafayette in their previous meeting back in February. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
