5A Region 4 recap October 1, 2013
Stone was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 5A Region 4. The Tomcats beat East Central 42-21 earlier in the week.
Picayune took down Gautier 52-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Jake Eaker provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Hornets lost to Stone.
Andrew Dunn put up the best numbers through the air as Pascagoula defeated West Harrison. He finished with 11 completions for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns. Dunn's favorite target this week was Matthew Eaton, who caught 8 passes for 84 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Panthers' Dunn and Eaton have proven to be a lethal combination. Dunn has thrown for 802 yards this season, while Eaton, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 23 catches for 319 yards. Canen Cooper from East Central leads the league in rushing with 634 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Seth Smith's team takes on Pascagoula. At the moment, the Hornets are in eighth, while Lewis Simms' team is in first.
There should be lots of points scored when East Central and the Panthers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Hornets comes in having scored 97 this season, while Pascagoula has scored 113. East Central scored 21 points last week as it lost to Adam Stone's team.
The Maroon Tide led 5A Region 4 in scoring this week after putting up 52 points on the Gators.
