Lucas Kaiser was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Tri-Township is 2-1 when Kaiser posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Tyler Chambers also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Morgan Township made sure to put some runs up on the board against Lowell on Saturday. The Cherokees were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Red Devils. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Cherokees' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Morgan Township also got a great performance from Jett Gheaja as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave Gheaja a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Matt Symer, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cal Lemmons, who went 2-for-5 with one triple and two RBI.
Morgan Township was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lowell only posted a batting average of .250.
Tri-Township's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Morgan Township, their record is now 4-12-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tri-Township has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Morgan Township struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Tri-Township couldn't quite finish off Morgan Township when the teams last played back in June of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
