The Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls will head out to face off against the Hobbs Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Carlsbad is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 12 games.
Carlsbad's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Roswell 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Cavemen/Cavegirls' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Not much got past Aubrey Hernandez, who gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep Roswell off the board. Hernandez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Carlsbad saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kalion Fuentes, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hobbs waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Wildcats as they made off with an 18-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Maryna Valenzuela made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Valenzuela was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Angel Jimenez was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with five RBI and one run. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Edyth Chavez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Hobbs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .581. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Carlsbad pushed their record up to 18-6 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Hobbs, their record now sits at 13-10.
Carlsbad beat Hobbs 10-5 in their previous meeting last Monday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavemen/Cavegirls since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
