Sissonville hasn't had much luck against Ripley recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Indians will head out to challenge the Vikings at 6:30 p.m. The last three games Sissonville has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Sissonville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Spring Valley, who was ranked 11th at the time (Sissonville was ranked 19th). The Indians fell just short of the Timberwolves by a score of 12-10 on Thursday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Indians, who until this match were averaging 4.03 runs allowed.
Layne Coffman was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Rocco Lazo also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Ripley and Hurricane, and Ripley kept the tradition alive. The Vikings came out on top against the Redskins by a score of 8-3 on Thursday.
Parker Keller and Bryson Casto were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Keller tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Casto pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Keller got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Casto went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Casto has posted since back in April.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kyler Doss, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Ripley pushed their record up to 16-8 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Sissonville, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-9.
Sissonville suffered a grim 12-5 defeat to Ripley in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
