I Section I recap November 5, 2013
Chandler added to the longest winning streak in I Section I this week by beating Highland, 21-14. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Perry lost to Hamilton 31-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Alec Monte was a bright spot for the Pumas, as he threw for 116 yards and ran for 15 yards in the defeat.
Basha's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Zach Werlinger threw for 207 and 2 touchdowns and Doc O'Connor had 156 yards receiving. On the ground Rajhan Meriwether chipped in 166 yards. Ryan Robertson helped Basha's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 49 yards.
Bryce Perkins provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Chandler topped the Hawks. He completed 21 passes for 267 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 52 yards. Perkins' favorite target this week was Chase Lucas, who caught 6 passes for 96 yards.
He went 9-17 with 0 interceptions.
Werlinger put up the best numbers through the air as the Bears beat Gilbert. Werlinger's favorite target this week was O'Connor, who caught 5 passes for 156 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Basha's Werlinger and O'Connor have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Werlinger has thrown for 2,652 yards this season, while O'Connor has 53 catches for 976 yards. The Tigers' Dylon Gillette leads the league in rushing yards with 652.
Bernie Busken's team's O'Connor needs only 24 receiving yards against Horizon to crack 1,000 for the season. So far this year, he has garnered 53 catches for 976 yards.
