Concord Academy hasn't had much luck against Metrolina Christian Academy recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Warriors at 4:30 p.m.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Tuesday. Concord Academy came up short against Gaston Christian, falling 11-1. Concord Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Concord Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kade Brown, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Metrolina Christian Academy put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Marvin Ridge an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won 11 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Metrolina Christian Academy also got a great performance from Case Gibbs as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Gibbs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jackson Pierce was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Another player making a difference was Abram Hargett, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Metrolina Christian Academy's victory was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Concord Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Concord Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Metrolina Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
