West Linn hasn't had much luck against Oregon City recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Lions will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pioneers at 5:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as West Linn comes in on four and Oregon City on three.
West Linn proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Tigard 5-4.
Avery Wolf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kendall Atwood, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Vivienne McGraw was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oregon City). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Lakeridge a 12-0 shutout on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Pioneers with their most commanding win of the season.
Sophie Funnemark was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chloe Stromme, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Oregon City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 8.8.
West Linn pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Oregon City, their win bumped their record up to 6-10.
Oregon City's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Linn has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. It's a different story for Oregon City, though, as they've only averaged .322. Will they be able to contain West Linn's hitters?
