Yuma Catholic had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Central Spartans with a sharp 3-0 win on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Shamrocks sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row dating back to last season.
One reason for the win was Yuma Catholic's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 25-18, 25-15.
Annie Scarborough paced Yuma Catholic's offense, picking up eight kills. Scarborough got some help from Natalie Lawseth and her 24 assists. Audrina Payan controlled things from the service line, finishing with seven aces.
Despite the loss, Central still got an impressive performance from Emma Vogel, who had 15 digs and one assist.
Central's loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Looking ahead, Yuma Catholic will take on Brawley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Central, they have already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against San Diego on the 29th.
