Softball Recap: Green Valley Takes Down Ranked Basic

Green Valley faced Basic in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Green Valley never let Basic get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Considering the Gators have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Lyla Baxter and Liliana Esparza did most of the damage at the plate: Baxter went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Esparza scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs Esparza has posted since March 4th. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauryn Galvin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Green Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Green Valley has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Basic's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Green Valley will take on Silverado at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Green Valley is facing Silverado at the right time seeing as Silverado is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Basic, they will face off against Bonanza at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Basic's pitchers better be ready for this one: Bonanza has averaged an impressive 10.5 runs per game this season.
