Basketball Recap: Hialeah Takes a Loss

If Hialeah was feeling good fresh off their 73-37 takedown of Westland Hialeah last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hialeah Thoroughbreds took a blow against the Reagan Bison on Friday, falling 77-43. While losing is never fun, the Thoroughbreds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while the Bison are ranked 45th).

Despite the loss, Hialeah still got an impressive performance from Dj Foster, who posted 20 points. The game was Foster's fourth in a row with at least ten points. D'Angelo Alvarez was another key player, putting up nine points.

Reagan had a senior duo take command as Sebastian Gonzalez almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds and Chris Bravo put up 11 points along with eight assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Chica, who had four points.

With the defeat, Hialeah broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-1. As for Reagan, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2.

Hialeah wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 59-40 victory against Hialeah-Miami Lakes on the 10th. As for Reagan, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-39 win against Miami Christian on the 10th.
