The Burroughs Bears had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 79-78 victory over South Pasadena. With that victory, Burroughs brought their scoring average up to 50.6 points per game.
Burroughs' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Omar Payind led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Payind has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Kardosh, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds.
Despite the loss, South Pasadena had strong showings from Jack Madison, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds, and Russell Williams, who scored 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds. The matchup was Williams' 14th in a row with at least ten points. Taj Ringer was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Even though they lost, South Pasadena were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Burroughs' victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for South Pasadena, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burroughs will take on Muir at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Muir has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 195 points over their last three contests. South Pasadena's road trip will continue as they head out to face Trabuco Hills at 3:30 p.m. on January 6th. Hopefully Trabuco Hills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Saturday.
