III Section II recap Oct. 16, 2012
Flagstaff extended the longest winning streak in III Section II this week by beating Glendale, 38-0. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Eagles.
Shadow Ridge took down Dysart 67-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Anthony King threw for 136 yards and one touchdown and ran for 56 yards in the win.
Kenneth Heinzerling and Mark Dogbah gave Greenway a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Heinzerling threw for 145 yards and three touchdowns, while Dogbah ran for 402 yards. Teammate Bryan Froderman added to the ground attack by rushing for 96 yards.
Luke Ross made the biggest impact on defense this week as Coconino lost to Winslow. The 6-foot-2 senior grabbed two sacks.
Jordan Cons was the best wideout in the league this week as Verrado beat Sierra Linda. Cons tallied nine receptions for 140 yards. Chase Spear helped Verrado's passing attack out by catching five balls for 73 yards.
6-foot-3 quarterback Tyler Rogers of Liberty is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1939. He has also thrown 23 touchdowns. On the ground, the Demons' Dogbah has rushed for 1739 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Elroy Masters. The Sunrise Mountain star has 24 catches for 780 yards.
Entering into this week's contest against Kellis, Rogers is short just 61 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in III Section II this week will be when Sunrise Mountain takes on Cactus. The Mustangs are in first place, while the Cobras are in fourth place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Panthers take on Flagstaff. Coconino has allowed 105 points this season, while Eddie Campos' team has given up 123. George Moate's team allowed 42 points last week as it fell to the Bulldogs.
Copper Canyon made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,048 from 11,007. The improvement was the result of 32-22 victory over Youngker last week.
