Gregori is 0-3 against Ripon Christian since December of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Gregori Jaguars' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Ripon Christian Knights at 6:00 p.m. on December 22nd. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Gregori ultimately got the result they hoped for last Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Bradshaw Christian 64-61.
Jayson Powers continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 39 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Those 39 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Tooze, who scored 12 points.
Even though Ripon Christian has not done well against Sonora recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Ripon Christian took down Sonora 59-40. Given Ripon Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 383rd, while Sonora is ranked 819th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jake Vander veen was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Jace Beidleman was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Gregori now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Ripon Christian, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-4.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Gregori hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 53.7 points per game. It's a different story for Ripon Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 54 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Gregori came up short against Ripon Christian in their previous meeting on December 7th, falling 65-60. Can Gregori avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
