The Bayshore Bruins struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs had 17 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Bayshore ended up on the wrong side of a tough 72-50 walloping at the hands of the Mustangs. Bayshore was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-18.
When it comes to explaining why Bayshore lost, one person who can't be blamed is William Strawbridge. Despite the final result, he scored 25 points along with three steals. Strawbridge has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last seven times he's played. Keshawn Parhm was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five assists and three steals.
Lakewood Ranch found their leader in underclassman David Young, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Young is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Liam Scalzo, who scored 17 points.
Bayshore's defeat dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Lakewood Ranch, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-14.
Bayshore will be playing at home against the Seminoles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southeast has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 10. As for Lakewood Ranch, they and the Rams will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Riverview Sarasota presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Mustangs in Florida (the Rams are ranked 157th, while the Mustangs are ranked 366th).
