Farmington has gone a perfect 10-0 against Lakeville South recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Tigers will head out to square off against the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. Farmington will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Farmington and Rosemount meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Tigers never let the Irish get on the board and left with a 3-0 win.
Kayla Schweich was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
Schweich wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lila Johannsen, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lakeville South, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against Eagan on Monday by a score of 5-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Not much got past Lauren Schellhammer, who gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks to keep Eagan off the board.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Trinity Jensen, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmie Herder, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Farmington pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Lakeville South, their record is now 4-6.
Farmington took their win against Lakeville South in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 12-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
