The Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 61-42 bruising from Albany. While losing is never fun, Saratoga Springs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 299th, while Albany is ranked 22nd).
Albany's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Iyana Weedon led the charge by scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. The contest was Weedon's third in a row with at least ten points. Jordan Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Saratoga Springs has fallen quite a ways from their 14-7 record last season and are now at 1-5. As for Albany, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Saratoga Springs will take on Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Columbia has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 316 points over their last five matchups. As for Albany, they will head out on the road to face off against Troy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Troy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
